Refining Topological Relations between Regions Considering Their Shapes

چکیده
Topological relations are sometimes insufficient for differentiating spatial configurations of two objects with critical difference in their connection styles. In this paper, we present the projective 9-intersection model, which refines topological relations into projective binary relations by considering projective properties of the objects’ shapes. This is indeed a reformulation of projective concepts of the Dimensional Model within the framework of the 9intersection. Thirty projective binary relations are established between two regions in R, one of which has a multi-order boundary (region+mob). These relations are identified computationally by applying to all theoretical relations the existing constraints for topological region-region relations and seven new specific constraints. After defining the concept of continuous neighbours between two projective binary relations, a conceptual neighbourhood graph of the 30 projective region+mob-region relations is developed.

An Adverbial Approach for the Formal Specification of Topological Constraints Involving Regions with Broad Boundaries
Topological integrity constraints control the topological properties of spatial objects and the validity of their topological relationships in spatial databases. These constraints can be specified by using formal languages such as the spatial extension of the Object Constraint Language (OCL). Spatial OCL allows the expression of topological constraints involving crisp spatial objects. However, ...

Nowadays, geospatial information systems (GIS) are widely used to solve different spatial problems based on various types of fundamental data: spatial, temporal, attribute and topological relations. Topological relations are the most important part of GIS which distinguish it from the other kinds of information technologies. One of the important mechanisms for representing topological relations...
متن کاملUsing topology for spatial reasoning
Several formalisms have been proposed for qualitative reasoning about regions and their topological relations in space. These formalisms, based on pairwise relations, do not allow sufficiently powerful inferences to be used for spatial reasoning tasks such as planning a collision-free path. In this paper, I show how considering relations between region triples, much more powerful reasoning tech...
متن کاملA Model for Ternary Projective Relations between Regions
Current spatial database systems offer limited querying capabilities beyond topological relations. This paper introduces a model for projective relations between regions to support other qualitative spatial queries. The relations are ternary because they are based on the collinearity invariant of three points under projective geometry. The model is built on a partition of the plane in five regi...
متن کاملFrom Metric to Topology: Determining Relations in Discrete Space
This paper considers the nineteen planar discrete topological relations that apply to regions bounded by a digital Jordan curve. Rather than modeling the topological relations with purely topological means, metrics are developed that determine the topological relations. Two sets of five such metrics are found to be minimal and sufficient to uniquely identify each of the nineteen topological rel...
